Neilly Davies Consulting Engineers are the industry’s leaders in underpinning projects, with over 30 years of experience in underpinning design and construction.
Historically, many heritage buildings have been built with a lack of sufficient knowledge of how the soils behave, their bearing capacities and their subsequent reaction to moisture levels. As a direct implication, many of the old foundations are exceedingly shallow, with some built in reactive clays, others in sandy soils and others still are built on solid rock with the rock just below the surface. As such many of these structures require underpinning.
The characteristic style and work ethic of our consulting engineers here at Neilly Davies is such that we appreciate the foundations history and tradition provide us, while implementing our love and passion for innovation throughout our underpinning design work. It is this ethic, we believe, that has allowed us to produce the consistently exceptional results, especially although certainly not exclusively, in the area of underpinning.
Our consulting engineers understand how aged buildings are built and use a step-by-step approach by providing support to the existing structure while preparing the existing foundation for underpinning. Our consulting engineers have carried out underpinning works for even more modern structures such as blocks of flats where the foundations have not been piered to a firm strata and the building has started to show signs of differential settlement, generally after heavy rain or localised flooding.
Neilly Davies provide piers away from the existing foundation and support the existing foundation from the newly installed piers. Regardless of whether they are concrete or steel, we choose the most effective material and methodology to provide you with the underpinning that is specific to your situation using the most up to date equipment, our characteristic work ethic and expertise.
