Bala has been in the civil & structural engineering industry for over 30 years. His
engineering expertise spans road design,
bridge design, culverts, large urban and rural drainage systems and other structures. In an operational capacity, Bala has managed infrastructure projects worth over $140 million.
Beginning his experience as an engineering student trainee with Freeman Fox & Partners in the UK in 1975 and graduating in 1981 at Middlesex University, Enfield, UK, Bala has grown to become a pioneer in the
engineering consulting industry both in Australia and overseas.
Bala was engaged by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and USAID for 2 years to complete
bridge management projects in Sri Lanka for their Road Development Authority.
Following this, he worked for the Highways Department of South Australia for 12 years, participating in their engineer rotation scheme which lasted for 7 years.
Bala was then engaged by AusAID to provide
structural design advice to the Department of State Roads (DSR) of Zimbabwe as Deputy Chief Engineer and again in Papua New Guinea to the Department of Works (DOW) as a Bridge Maintenance Specialist for Cardno and Davies International.
Finally, Bala came to New South Wales with the Roads & Traffic Authority as a Bridge Maintenance Planner in the Northern Region, Bridge Maintenance Manager in the Sydney Region and later, Acting Sydney Maintenance Contracts Manager responsible for over 800 bridges in the Sydney Region. |
